What is a plaid or tartan pattern?
Plaid is stripes crossing at right angles, with the same sequence of widths running both ways. Where two bands cross, the color mixes, which is why real tartan has those darker squares at the intersections. Scottish tartans set the sequence by clan; here you just get the structure.
How to use the Plaid generator
Color the crossings darker than the bands and it instantly reads as woven cloth. That one move does more for a plaid than anything else, because it is what really happens when two dyed threads overlap.
